Texas Gold
This article was provided by 'Plant Growers Australia'
Botanical Name: Calylophus drummondianus var. beriandierii 'Texas Gold'
Common Name:
Size: Height 40cm x Spread 60cm
Aspect: Full sun.
Flowering: Through spring and summer. Related to the evening primrose family this evergreen perennial produces a succession of bright yellow flowers from spring through summer. However, unlike its sometimes 'unruly' relatives, 'Texas Gold' is non-invasive forming a neat mound of fine foliage. A native wildflower of Texas, USA, it has a high tolerance level of dry conditions once established and will perform in most soil types providing it is free draining.
Uses: Ideal for the informal cottage style garden where spectacular effects can be created using small drifts of two to three plants. Great for mixed borders and rockeries. Grow in decorative tubs or hanging baskets for the entertainment area or patio.
Cultural Notes: Prune off up to one third of original size during early spring to encourage a neat, compact habit. An application of slow release fertiliser at the same time will be beneficial. Easy to grow.
