The Pineapple Environment
Pineapples are tropical plants, and will grow fantastically in Queensland (Australia), Hawaii, and so on. If you don't live there, you must protect your pineapple from the cold, especially frost. Frost will kill it on the first night. Keep it inside during winter (and around winter if it's still cold). When you move it out after the cold, keep it in the shade for a couple of days while it gets used to the sun. If you have warm days and risk frost at night, keep it in overnight. Pineapples thrive on good sunlight, so if it's inside all year, it will be a very slow bloomer.
Pineapples don't need heaps of water (about 20 inches of rain per year), so give it a wet about once a week.
In a pot your Pineapple will need food as well. Use a smattering of good household plant food every two or three months (water into the soil). Use a liquid if you like - follow the instructions for a small shrub.
