Nasturtium - Purposes for this plant are limitless, as it is a fast grower and likes poor, dry soils. It is a good plant to conceal unsightly areas, covering banks or walls and even for windowboxes. Bright colours of yellow, orange and red flowers are a show stopper when mass planted. Don't feed this plant any fertilizer unless you are only wanting the medium green round leaves. When given fertilizer the leaves increase in size and flowers are minimal. "Tall Mixed" or "Climbing Mixed" varieties grow 6-7 feet tall and flower from June to October. The leaves are edible, tasting peppery when added in small amounts to garden salads. For added interest, a varigated leaf variety is available. This plant will self-seed readily, but is easily thinned to where it is required to grow.

Canary Creeper Vine - Another Nasturtium family member, yet it is lesser known. The leaves are deeply-cut and five-lobed, in which rises a beautiful flower resembling a bright yellow canary-bird in flight. It's leaves are much finer than the rest of it's family and therefore do not conceal areas well. Very easy to start from seed and has great seed germination rate. Can be grown in pots to spill over to the ground or climb up 6' to 8 ' on a support.
