Each of the varieties have different demands of nutrients, soil conditions and water, yet all achieve great result in concealing unsightly areas or simply adding their beauty. They are all easily grown from seed; planting 1/4" - 1/2" deep in average soil and keeping the soil moist until they germinate. Then, only water once per week or if necessary. A few of the seeds available to try with great success for even the beginner are:
Morning Glories - A very well-known vine, typically seen flowering in a medium blue. Flowers appearing June to September are trumpet-like, lasting only for a day, yet many more take it's place in succession. The square stems have dark green, heart shaped leaves that twine themselves around supports. The leaves are not plentiful enough to conceal an unsightly area but the plant does make a wonderful sight when climbing a trellis, arbours and fence posts. Other colours are available in pinks, reds and purples, as well as white striped varieties. Heights range with the various choices available; from the bush variety "Ensign Series" (blues, reds) growing only 11/2 feet long, to "Heavenly Blue" (blue) growing 8 feet high and "Scarlet O'Hara" (red) may exceed 10 feet high. This plant likes full sun to have the best effect. Not suitable for bouquets, as the blooms close up when placed indoors.
