'About Us'

The Orchid Society of Western Australia Inc. was formed in 1946 to formally bring together the orchid growers of this State. Being a reasonably isolated spot on the map of Australia there was, and still is, a need to bring local orchid growers together in an endeavour to assist each other to grow their favourite orchids in a reasonably harsh climate.

The meetings are held in South Perth at the Collins Street Centre which is on the corner of Collins & Shaftesbury Streets on the 4th Friday of each month with the exception of December when it is held on the 3rd Friday. Visitors are always welcome at these meetings. Orchid growers travelling through Perth are most welcome and should they be prepared to address the meeting regarding orchid growing we will endeavour to make arrangements for a special meeting should that be necessary. The Committee arranges speakers for the meetings. These speakers cover a wide range of subjects including the culture and displaying of orchids.

Each Month a copy of the Western Australian Orchid Bulletin is posted to each member. This publication gives details of the forthcoming meeting, details of the plant competition for the previous month, culture notes to assist with the growing of different genera of orchids, as well as general information regarding the members and activities of the club.

The club usually holds 3 major shows each year in suburban shopping centres, These shows cater for all genera of orchids and entry is open to any orchid grower in the State. There are certain restrictions regarding the winning of perpetual trophies.

The Orchid Society of Western Australia Inc. is a foundation member of the Australian Orchid Council Inc. and also a member of the American Orchid Society.
